What anime should I recommend after Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood?
#1
I’m trying to get a friend into anime, and I started them with *Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood* thinking it was the perfect gateway. They liked it, but now they’re asking for something with a similar vibe and I’m completely stuck on what to suggest next that won’t feel like a letdown.

Hunter x Hunter (2011) scratches that same mix of epic worldbuilding and small, personal moments. The fights feel clever, the world logic holds up, and the crew dynamics stay front and center. I started with a few early exams arcs with a friend and their interest stuck as the tone shifted toward bigger stakes.

Death Note leans darker and more psychological, but it scratches the same itch for ethics under pressure. If your friend liked the moral bits in FMA, a handful of episodes can click fast, then you can move on to something warmer after.

Would they be open to something darker and heavier or do they want something that leans more hopeful and character driven?

I once binged Made in Abyss while the kitchen clock ticked too loud and I kept pausing to check another message. It’s all about atmosphere first and payoff later, which can either feel earned or just heavy. If you’re worried about a letdown, try a shorter arc in a similar vibe to ease them in.
