What can I do if my fasting glucose rises as beta cell function declines?
#1
I’ve been managing my type 2 diabetes for years, but lately my fasting numbers are creeping up even though I’m sticking to my same diet and medication. My doctor mentioned the possibility of my beta cell function declining further, which honestly makes me feel a bit lost about what to actually do next.

I hear you. My fasting numbers started drifting up after a couple of years too, even though my diet and meds looked the same. I kept a simple two week log of meals and bedtimes and noticed mornings higher after late dinners and poor sleep. I tried moving dinner earlier by two hours and adding a 15 minute walk after supper; the overnight numbers eased a bit, but it wasn't a slam dunk.

Have you noticed any pattern like sleep quality, stress, or late meals that lands right when the numbers spike?

Not a doctor here, but the idea that beta cell function might be declining makes me feel unsettled too. I did a quick adjustment once and it felt like I was chasing shadows, so we paused. It helped me focus on small tweaks and a clearer morning check in schedule.

Sometimes I wonder if the problem is bigger than a single number. I tried wearing a CGM for a bit, and overnight trends showed the same pattern most nights, which nudged me to tweak dinner timing and bedtime a bit more. It didn’t fix everything, though, and I still wonder if I’m looking at the right culprit.
