What can we do about aggressive debates from rule-following regulars?
#1
I’ve noticed a few regulars in our community who are technically following all the posted rules, but their constant, aggressive debating is making others hesitant to join conversations. Where do you draw the line when someone’s behavior isn’t explicitly against the rules but is clearly damaging the atmosphere?

I watched it unfold in our space and the debate energy stays within rules but it makes the room feel tense. We tried a soft reminder about our norms and a quick pause on heated threads and I did notice engagement dip for a couple of days then it came back but the mood was never the same.

I am a regular here and it wears me down when a few folks argue every point even tiny posts. It makes me hesitant to jump in. I saw fewer new folks comment after a week which felt like we were aging out of the conversation.

I keep wondering if the real thing is not tone but trust or safety. Is the real problem trust not tone?

Maybe the space does invite debate and that is the point so some people are filling that niche while others disappear. I drifted off topic once and started to think it is the structure and not the people and it did not clear things up.
