What caused my car insurance premium to jump after renewal?
#1
I just got my renewal notice and my premium has jumped up by almost forty percent for no reason I can see. I haven’t had any claims or tickets, and my car is a year older. Has anyone else had their rate go up this much out of the blue? I’m trying to figure out if this is just the new normal or if I should start shopping around.

Yeah mine jumped at renewal too, no claims, car a year older. It felt random until I talked to a few agents and looked at the rate sheets. Turns out they use a bunch of factors and even small changes can spike the price.

I did quick online quotes with the same coverage and saw a wide spread. Some places were cheaper, others the same or higher once extras were added. I saved by tightening coverage and shopping around.

I asked my current insurer for a break down and they just pointed to market shifts. Not very reassuring, but at least I had something to push back with when asking for discounts.

Do you think the real issue is the renewal math or something else like how many miles you drive or your credit score? I keep wondering if chasing the wrong thing is why it feels unsatisfying.
