What causes dull upper right abdominal pain with a possible biliary issue?
#1
I’ve been dealing with this persistent, dull ache in my upper right abdomen for a few months now, and my doctor just mentioned the possibility of a biliary issue after some blood work. I’m not really sure what to make of that, since the pain comes and goes and doesn’t seem tied to any specific meal. Has anyone else had a similar experience where the discomfort was just vaguely there without the classic attack?

I've had something like that too. A dull ache in the upper right for months, not a sharp attack. After the tests my doctor mentioned biliary issues. My ultrasound showed no obvious stones, but the tech suggested sludge can be invisible. A HIDA scan later hinted slow bile flow. Pain still comes and goes, and it never felt tied to meals.

For me it felt more like muscle tension or a tight rib cage from coughing and desk work. The timing was random, and I kept thinking it must be something to do with my stomach, but the pattern never lined up with meals.

I did keep a tiny diary for a few weeks: note when it hurt, what I ate, how I slept, and any activity before it. It helped me notice it often showed up after long drives or after waking up from a nap, not after big meals. Still no clear fix, but it made the appointment follow-up easier.

Did anyone else notice patterns with time of day or activities, and did you ever get a clear diagnosis or are you still waiting?
