What causes micro-stuttering after upgrading my graphics card?
#1
I just got a new graphics card and now my game keeps freezing for a few seconds every couple of minutes. It’s not a full crash, but these consistent stutters make it completely unplayable. I’ve updated my drivers and checked temperatures, but the problem persists. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of persistent micro-stuttering after a hardware upgrade?

Yep, I had something similar after upgrading. It would stutter every few minutes, not a crash. Drivers updated and temps were fine, but the hiccups kept happening when the card started streaming data.

For me it felt like power delivery. An aging PSU would cause tiny freezes during load spikes. After upgrading the PSU, the behavior improved, though it didn't disappear entirely.

I tried moving the card to a different PCIe slot and it helped a bit, maybe due to bandwidth or lane sharing.

Shader compilation on first run of a game can cause a lot of small pauses; once the cache fills, it can smooth out.

I played with vsync and frame cap; sometimes it hid the hiccups, sometimes not.

Background tasks like Windows indexing or antivirus scans could line up with those pauses; I noticed the spikes when those were running.

Could the real issue be something else in the system altogether?
