What could cause a high pitched tinnitus in my ear at night?
#1
For the last few weeks, I’ve noticed a faint, high-pitched sound in my right ear that seems to come and go, especially when it’s quiet. It’s not constant, but it’s starting to worry me because I can’t figure out what triggers it.

I've had something like that too for a few weeks. It pops up in quiet moments and is a faint high tone. It doesn’t hurt, just a bit distracting, and it isn’t always there.

One thing I tried was keeping a tiny log: when it starts, what I was doing, what I’d eaten or drank, and how loud the room was. It didn’t solve it, but it helped me notice patterns, like it showing up after big noise days or late at night. A friend suggested I get my ears checked if it sticks around for a while, and I did ask a clinician about it.

Maybe the issue isn’t in your ear at all. Could a humming appliance, a phone charger, or jaw tension be picking up in the air? It’s the kind of thing people mistake for a fixed problem and then discover it’s something else. The word tinnitus is the label some doctors use for this kind of sound, but I’m not sure that helps me yet.

I’m not sure this will help, but I haven’t rushed to conclusions yet. I haven’t gone in for a formal check, partly because it seems to come and go. Sometimes stepping outside or moving around makes it fade a bit, other times it stays.
