What could cause a high pitched tinnitus in my ear at night?

Maybe the issue isn’t in your ear at all. Could a humming appliance, a phone charger, or jaw tension be picking up in the air? It’s the kind of thing people mistake for a fixed problem and then discover it’s something else. I’m not sure this will help, but I haven’t rushed to conclusions yet. I haven’t gone in for a formal check, partly because it seems to come and go. Sometimes stepping outside or moving around makes it fade a bit, other times it stays.
