What could trigger a TPMS warning when all tire pressures are correct?

I’ve got a 2017 Civic and the TPMS light just came on solid. I checked all four tires with a gauge and they’re all exactly at the door placard pressure, so it’s not an actual low tire. Could a failing sensor battery cause this even if the pressure is correct?

Yeah that can happen. The sensors are battery powered and a dying cell can give you a solid light even when the tire pressure checks out. I had a 2017 Civic that did this after a couple of winters; pressure looked fine, but one sensor kept reporting a stale reading. Replaced the faulty sensor and the light stayed off after a reset.

I got the codes read at a shop and it pointed to a specific wheel sensor. They replaced just that sensor and the light went away. Not quick to DIY, those things are glued into the valve stem and you need the right tool and a relearn.

I’m not convinced the battery is the whole story. Could be a flaky sensor, a wiring hiccup, or a slow leak that the gauge doesn’t show right away. I rotated tires and the light flickered once, then stayed off for a few days before coming back briefly.

Do you have a chance to run a diagnostic at a shop or try the car’s relearn procedure? If you want, I can share what happened to me.
