What counts as a whole grain for heart health, like steel-cut oats?
#1
I’ve been trying to eat more whole foods for my heart health, but I honestly get confused about what actually counts. For example, is steel-cut oatmeal considered a whole grain in the same way brown rice is? I’m never sure if my choices are really giving me the intended benefit.

Yep—steel-cut oats count as a whole grain, just like brown rice. I swapped from quick oats to steel-cut and noticed I felt fuller longer and had steadier energy through workouts.

I wasn't sure at first either. Some labels say 100 percent oats and I still wondered if that's truly the real thing.

One concrete thing I did was start reading ingredients and tracking fiber, protein, and sugar per serving. After a few weeks, steel-cut oats seemed to keep me full until lunch, which helped me skip snacks.

Maybe the bigger issue isn't the grain type but overall patterns—lots of color on the plate, more fiber variety, and watching sauces. Do you think this is the main problem, or is it something else?
