What do deja vu seizure episodes mean in temporal lobe epilepsy?
#1
I’ve been getting these strange episodes where I feel a sudden, intense sense of overwhelming familiarity with my surroundings, like I’ve lived the exact moment before, but it only lasts for a few seconds. My neurologist mentioned it could be a type of focal aware seizure originating in the temporal lobe. Has anyone else experienced this as part of their epilepsy?

I have felt something like that too a few times. A sudden flash of knowing what the room will be like as if I have been here before, and then it passes in seconds. It was more intense when I was tired, and I did not know what to call it at first.

A friend who also deals with focal issues described it as a brief aware spell. I started keeping a simple log of when it happens, what I was doing, and how I felt before and after. It helped me notice patterns but you still need a clinician to interpret it.

Is this really the whole picture or could epilepsy be one piece of a bigger puzzle driving this?

I did not sleep well last week and a few odd moments popped up while I was at a grocery store. It drifted a bit and then I remembered a song from years ago and it felt surreal. Then I realized the moment was over and I kept going. I did not solve it, but noting the time of day helped.
