What do you think about the Avatar live-action vs the original?

I just watched the new live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender, and I’m honestly torn. The original animated series meant so much to me, but this version feels like it’s rushing through the story beats without the heart. Has anyone else found themselves comparing every scene to the original and feeling a bit let down?

I felt the same at first, kept rewatching moments and comparing tone to the animated version. It was like the heart wasn’t in those quiet beats as often.

I watched with a friend and we kept pausing to talk about pacing. It felt like we skipped a lot of the worldbuilding and then tried to shove in the big reveals.

I gave it a chance and then drifted away; after a couple episodes I found myself checking how many episodes were left and wishing for longer scenes.

Is the real problem that I want the same vibe? Maybe the source material is different enough that the heart can't ride through.

I did a quick compare, counted scene lengths and quiet beats versus the animated version, and the numbers bore out the impression that pacing leaned toward speed.

Some scenes land for me though; the action bursts feel crisp, but the warmth or humor from the original is missing.

Maybe I'm just not the target audience anymore, or maybe this era wants a different energy.
