What does a central dark spot in vision mean for my retina or macula?
#1
I’ve noticed a persistent dark spot in the center of my vision in my right eye that doesn’t move when I look around. My optometrist saw something during my last exam and referred me to a retinal specialist, mentioning possible changes to my macula. I’m waiting for the appointment but it’s making reading and recognizing faces really difficult.

That sounds really scary. I’ve been there with a stubborn central spot in one eye and the waiting for a specialist felt like the minutes stretched into hours. I hope the appointment brings some real answers.

I started using larger fonts and a high-contrast screen, and I let myself take short reading breaks when the eye tired. It didn’t fix the spot, but it made reading possible for a bit longer.

Part of me wants to chalk it up to glare or fatigue, but that center spot staying still as I move my head makes me doubt that line of thinking.

Do you think the problem might be more about the anxiety of waiting than the actual physical change?
