What does a dark spot in the center of my vision mean for macular degeneration?
#1
I’ve been noticing a persistent dark spot in the center of my vision in my right eye, and it makes reading or recognizing faces really difficult. My optometrist mentioned it could be related to macular degeneration and referred me to a retinal specialist, but I’m waiting for that appointment and feeling pretty anxious about what this means for my sight long-term.

That sounds really unsettling. I’ve had something similar where central vision blurred a bit, and it turned reading and faces into a daily hurdle. The wait for a specialist felt endless and nerve wracking.

I tried keeping a tiny notebook—dates, times of day, glare, and when it seemed clearer. It didn’t fix things, but it gave me something concrete to show the doctor and a small sense of control.

Macular degeneration is scary to think about, but plenty of people live with it and manage for years with regular checks.

Could it be the problem is something else entirely, like lighting or something in the eye that isn’t the center spot?
