What does a dull upper abdominal ache after meals mean?
#1
I’ve been dealing with this persistent, gnawing pain in my upper abdomen for about three months now, and my doctor mentioned it could be related to my stomach acid. It seems to get worse a couple of hours after I eat, and sometimes I even feel it in my back. Has anyone else experienced this kind of dull, constant ache that just won’t go away?

Yep, I’ve had a dull upper abdominal ache that showed up after meals and would sometimes shoot into my back. It dragged on for weeks. I finally had an endoscopy and they said it looked like gastritis. I was put on a PPI for a few weeks and the pain eased, though it took time. It still isn’t perfect, but it’s better.

I panicked a bit because it also felt after eating and I sweated through a lot of hours thinking it might be something serious. It could be heartburn or a burn from reflux, or just gas pressure. I cut caffeine, skipped the spicy stuff, and tried smaller meals. It helped a little, but the ache stayed, and I suspect acid reflux sometimes.

Could there be something else going on? I kept thinking it was the stomach, but a few tests came back inconclusive. It makes you doubt the simple explanation and wonder if it’s coming from the back or a muscle too. I’m not sure the real problem has been found yet.

I tried lying on the left side after meals and waited it out, and I kept some antacids around. Sometimes they helped for a bit, sometimes not. It felt slow to figure out what actually helped, like chasing a moving target.
