What does a fasting glucose jump from 95 to 102 mean for prediabetes?
#1
I just got my annual physical results back and my doctor noted my fasting glucose was 102 mg/dL, which he called "prediabetic." I'm a bit confused because last year it was 95 and I haven't changed my diet or activity much. Is this kind of jump something that commonly happens, or does it usually mean a definite trend?

Yeah, that quick jump happens more often than people expect. A single number isn’t a trend. Things like when you last ate, stress, or a night of bad sleep can nudge the result by a point or two.

Mine did something like that too and they labeled it prediabetes once, then it drifted back down after a few months. The variability surprised me more than the actual number.

Do you know if you truly fasted for the full 8 hours and avoided caffeine that morning? Those details can flip the reading.

I tried keeping a little notebook of the readings and what else was going on—sleep, stress, workouts. It didn’t solve anything, but it helped me remember that a single test is just a moment.
