What does depersonalization have to do with temporal lobe seizures?
#1
I’ve been experiencing these strange, sudden episodes where I feel intensely detached from my own body, like I’m floating or watching myself from outside. My neurologist mentioned it could be a form of depersonalization, and that it might be linked to temporal lobe activity. It’s not like my other sensory auras, and I’m wondering if anyone else has this as part of their seizure profile.

I’ve had a few of those, where it feels like I’m floating or watching myself during an aura. It’s hard to describe, but it comes with this hollow, detached vibe and it lasts a few seconds to a bit longer. I notice it shows up more when I’m tired or stressed. I started keeping a simple log of when it happened, what meds I took, sleep, and mood, and that helped me spot patterns even if it didn’t stop it.

A friend of mine described something similar on seizure days. Not exactly depersonalization for them, but a floaty sensation during temporal lobe activity. They went through EEGs and sleep studies, and the neurologist told them it can be part of the spectrum for some people.

Is it possible this isn’t the depersonalization itself but something else messing with awareness during those episodes?

I’ve tried grounding tactics in the moment—touching a chair, naming things aloud, slow breaths—and honestly it helps a little to ride it out, but I can’t tell if that changed anything long term. Sometimes it shows up after a long day or after skipping sleep.
