What does optic nerve pallor mean when vision is normal?
#1
I’ve been told my optic nerve looks a bit pale during my last two checkups, but my visual field test came back normal each time. My ophthalmologist mentioned the term “optic nerve pallor” but said we should just monitor it since my vision seems fine. I’m not sure what to make of this—has anyone else had this finding without any noticeable vision loss?

I’ve had a similar thing. The ophthalmologist used the term optic nerve pallor, but my vision stayed sharp and the visual field tests stayed normal. They told me to monitor and come back if anything changes.

I freaked out at first, thinking pallor meant something immediate was wrong. Over the years I’ve learned it can be a lot of things, some harmless and some not, and sometimes it’s just where your optic nerve looks under the light.

Do you know if this sometimes reflects a systemic issue or if it can be purely eye related? I asked my doctor and they said watchful waiting, but I still wonder what the real cause could be.

I started a simple daily habit like wearing sunglasses and I kept tabs on any new symptoms, setting a reminder to review tests every year. So far nothing has changed.
