What finally convinced you to read a book instead of leaving it on the shelf?

I’ve been trying to get into reading more, but I keep buying books and then never actually opening them. My shelf is full of good intentions. I’m wondering if anyone else does this and what finally made you pick one up and stick with it.

Yep, I’ve been there. I want more reading, but my shelves are full of ‘next week’ books. I finally stuck with one after a tiny ritual: 15 minutes before bed, no screens, just the book. After a few nights I was in a chapter and the momentum carried me.

Maybe the real issue isn’t willpower but how we pick them. I grabbed a beautiful cover and then sat with a slow start that never sparked. Do we even like what we think we like?

On the bus I keep a paperback in my bag; if I have a stopover I read a page or two. It’s not heroic, but it adds up.

I tried a plan for a week, it worked a bit, and then life happened. Now I’m back to the shelf where nothing finished sits, and the last thing I actually finished was months ago.
