What front-end layout works best for my arcade cabinet game library?
#1
I’ve finally finished my custom arcade cabinet build, but I’m stuck on the final step of setting up the front-end. I can’t decide between using a simple list or a more visual wheel for browsing the game library, and I’m worried my choice might make it less intuitive for guests to just pick up and play.

I started with a simple list and added big icons. It felt familiar to friends who grew up with menus, and it was fast to navigate. We could boot a game in under a minute.

I built a visual wheel prototype and let guests try it. People spun it, some thought it looked slick, but new players hesitated when the pointer landed on a game and they didn't recognize the thumbnail.

Maybe the real issue isn’t the format at all but how the games are labeled and previewed. I noticed confusion because previews don’t clearly show genre or play mode; would a simple search or filtering fix the problem?

I kept a hybrid approach for now, showing a small wheel for favorites on the main screen and a scrollable list for everything else. Balancing speed and discovery is tricky, and I worry about overdesigning.
