What helped you manage sleep maintenance insomnia and 3am wakeups?
#1
I’ve been trying to stick to a consistent sleep schedule for months, but I keep waking up around 3 AM and can’t get back to sleep for over an hour. It’s starting to really affect my energy and mood during the day. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of persistent sleep maintenance insomnia and found something that actually helps?

I’ve been there too—waking around 3 am, the whole day feels heavy. I tried two things that helped a bit: cutting caffeine after lunch and locking in a consistent wake time for a couple weeks. The 3 am wake still shows up, but mornings aren’t as brutal and I can get back into it sooner sometimes.

Could it be not the middle of the night itself but what comes after—restlessness, stress, or the lights in the room?

I did a tiny experiment, kept a simple log for a week, noted what I drank and roughly when I woke, and how the mornings felt. The pattern didn’t vanish, but at least I could point to caffeine and late screen time as likely culprits.

Sometimes I wonder if the issue isn’t the wake at all but something else we’re calling the problem, like anxiety or hormones. It’s frustrating to chase something that keeps shifting, and I’m not sure we’re chasing the real thing.
