What helps fingerprint scanners on smart locks when my hands are wet or dry?
#1
I’ve just installed a smart lock that uses a fingerprint scanner, and I’m already finding it’s not recognizing my print consistently, especially if my hands are a bit damp from washing dishes or dry from cold weather. I’m wondering if others have run into this and if it’s just a matter of needing to re-scan my finger under different conditions, or if this is a common flaw with this type of biometric entry.

Yep, I ran into the same thing. After I wash dishes or on a cold dry morning it wouldn’t read. I re scanned my finger a few times at slightly different angles and enrolled a second finger too. It helped some, but it’s not perfect yet.

I think it’s a common annoyance with biometric locks at home. Moisture oil or small cuts can throw it off, and performance varies by model. There’s sometimes a firmware update or a calibration option, but it isn’t a magic fix.

I tried to ignore it for a while, but it got annoying. I ended up falling back to the keypad when it acted up. Not ideal, but at least I had a fallback instead of fumbling at the door.

Sometimes I wonder if the problem is the sensor mounting or how I press the finger. I’ll be honest, I half blame the hardware, half my hands. It’s easy to overthink it.
