What helps with dawn phenomenon and high fasting glucose in type 2 diabetes?
#1
I’ve been managing my type 2 diabetes for years, but lately my fasting glucose is consistently higher no matter how carefully I follow my meal plan. My doctor mentioned it might be related to the dawn phenomenon, where hormones drive up blood sugar in the early morning. I’m just wondering if others have hit this plateau and what they found was actually going on.

I've been there too. After years of steady numbers, the morning readings started creeping up. Dawn phenomenon felt plausible, but I tried focusing on sleep consistency and a steadier routine rather than chasing a fix. A couple of months in, the trend softened a bit, but it didn’t disappear.

My fasting glucose stayed stubbornly high even when my meal plan was strict. It really helped to track patterns for a while—stress, poor sleep, and late dinners all seemed to push the morning numbers around. I didn’t get a clear answer, but noticing those days helped me decide what to adjust next.

Have you looked at overnight readings with a CGM or at 3am and 5am to map what’s happening?

One night I slept badly and woke with a higher number, and another week I slept fine and still saw it rise. I drifted between blaming hormones and blaming lifestyle, and I’m not sure which way the needle actually moved. I did keep a loose log for a while and it felt more confusing than helpful.
