What last of the Mohicans title track recording matches the theatre version?

I keep trying to find a good recording of the main title from *The Last of the Mohicans*, but every version I listen to feels off. The one from the original soundtrack album sounds thin compared to how I remember it in the theater, like it's missing a layer of strings or the percussion is too quiet in the mix. Has anyone else noticed this, or am I just misremembering how powerful the cue was?

Yeah I hear that. In the theater the cue felt like it wrapped around the room, tons of percussion and big lush strings. The album version on CD always sounded a bit slender to me, like the brass and low end got rolled off for the stereo master.

I did a quick compare last year with a remastered edition and it did feel closer to what I remember from the cinema. The bass came through a bit more and the strings weren't as brittle. Different mastering can really change the vibe of a front‑and‑center cue.

For me, I wonder if what I remember is half memory and half the theater's sound system. I swear I heard more reverb and presence live, like the space mattered as much as the instruments. The CD version might just be a product of its era.

Do you think the problem is memory or the actual mix?
