What makes that one random video feel so personalized by the algorithm?

Has anyone else noticed how weirdly personal the algorithm gets when it serves you those "one random video" that goes viral? My feed served me this clip of a guy fixing an old radio, and it was so specific to a hobby I only ever talked about with my grandpa years ago. It felt less like a coincidence and more like it knew something about me I'd almost forgotten.

Yeah, I noticed something similar. I had posted a couple of clips about old radios and repair manuals years ago, and suddenly the feed kept popping up tiny repair tutorials and soldering demos. It felt like more than luck, like the algorithm was peering into a drawer I forgot existed.

I tried not to click those, but one kept showing up every few days. I watched a full video about cleaning old pots and vintage wiring, and the next week I found myself looking up old schematic diagrams on a laptop I barely use. It was oddly personal and not something I planned.

Sometimes I think it's just patterns, not memories. But then there’s the moment when a clip about a vintage radio pops up and I swear I can smell the old workshop with my grandpa again. It leaves me both wistful and puzzled, like the app stumbled on something it wasn’t supposed to notice.

Do you think it's actually reading you, or just chasing a sequence of clicks that happens to line up with nostalgia?
