What monitor should i pick for sharpness, 27-inch 1440p vs 24-inch 1080p?

I’ve been trying to decide between a 27-inch 1440p and a 24-inch 1080p monitor for my new setup, and I’m stuck. My main concern is whether the pixel density on the larger screen will actually feel sharper for competitive FPS games, or if the smaller one’s higher PPI will give me a real edge in spotting distant targets.

I went with a 27 inch 1440p and a solid 144 Hz panel. At typical gaming distances it looks crisp enough and enemies pop out a bit more because there’s more screen real estate. The bigger canvas helps with awareness and tracking, but you’ll still need a GPU that can push high frame rates or it won’t feel smooth.

I tried a 24 inch 1080p setup once. The pixels are smaller and UI text is sharp, but I could see more blockiness when I scanned the distance and the screen felt a bit cramped for fast movements. It was fine, just not as forgiving for spotting things at the edge of the frame.

Are you sitting at a distance where the bigger screen helps your awareness, or would closer viewing make the higher pixel density matter more?

I thought I’d get the best of both with 27x1440, but I ran into frame rate stability issues first and then had to re-tune settings. It was not a clean win, and now I’m unsure whether the extra pixels or the faster refresh matter more in my games.
