What mpg should I expect from my sedan in mixed driving?
#1
I’m trying to figure out if my car’s fuel economy is normal or if something’s off. My 2018 sedan is only getting about 22 miles per gallon in mixed driving, which seems low compared to the EPA estimate I saw when I bought it. I’ve been keeping a close eye on my fuel consumption lately and it’s making me wonder what other owners are actually seeing.

I own a 2018 sedan too and 22 mpg in mixed driving sounds similar to what I’ve seen, especially when it’s cool and I’m stuck in city traffic.

EPA numbers are estimates, and real life depends on how you drive, tire pressure, and even whether you use AC a lot.

I did try driving with smoother throttle for a couple of tanks, and I saw it creep up from 22 to about 24, but it wasn’t dramatic.

Sometimes the trip computer disagrees with the tank average, which makes me wonder if the measurement method is the real issue rather than the car.

Do you mostly compare real tank averages to the EPA combined rating, or do you notice the difference only on certain trips?
