What narrative podcast feels intimate and simple, without heavy production?

I’m trying to get into more narrative podcasts, but I keep bouncing off the ones that feel too slick or over-produced. I just want a story that pulls me in without a ton of sound effects or a huge cast. Has anyone found a good one that just feels like a person telling you a compelling tale?

I found a few that feel simple a single voice telling a tale not a big cast or a wall of music The memory palace has a quiet atmosphere and a steady pace that stays with you

Yeah I tried one that sounded slick and polished and it turned me off After that I started skipping intros and any time a huge cast appeared I bailed early It was refreshing to hear a real person just describe something that happened

Would you be happy with true stories or fiction The vibe matters more than the topic for me

I kept it simple and picked two episodes with minimal sound design and no music beds and I measured not to fall asleep but to stay in the moment I paused if the episode felt like a tour of a set and not a person talking
