What pricing model should i choose for my first saas: flat monthly or per user?

I’m trying to figure out how to set a fair price for my first SaaS product. I’ve built a solid tool for small e-commerce shops, but I’m stuck between charging a flat monthly rate or a per-user fee, and I’m worried about scaring off early customers if I get it wrong.

I started with a flat monthly plan and a short trial, then added a mid tier for growing shops. The signal I got was that what mattered was clear value and fast onboarding, more than the exact amount.

Are you sure the real problem is the price, or is onboarding and showing value clearly?

We tried per user early on, and teams with many staff felt the plan unfair; signups stayed flat. Then we pivoted back to a flat rate with a simple add-on for volume. Not sure if that was best.

I kept tweaking and listening to a few early customers, but the ROI story kept changing. Maybe the next move is to track concrete usage and ask people what they'd actually pay, while not overthinking the math.
