What should I do about a high BP reading while waiting for my appointment?

I’ve been trying to manage my blood pressure with diet and exercise, but my last reading at home was still higher than my doctor wants. I’m just not sure if I should call the clinic now or wait for my next scheduled appointment in three weeks.

If it’s higher than your usual numbers and you’ve been logging readings, I’d call the clinic today. I’ve had a couple home readings that looked high and the nurse suggested a quick check instead of waiting.

I tried to ride it out for three weeks once, and the numbers barely moved. When I finally called in, they asked me to come in earlier and I got an interim check.

Do you have a BP log you can show them, and did you notice this spike after meals or caffeine?

Maybe it’s not the blood pressure itself but how you’re measuring—cuff tightness, posture, finishing lunch before the reading. A few tweaks helped me, though the numbers didn’t fully settle.

I’m not totally sure what to do, but if the reading is consistently above your usual range, I’d lean toward calling rather than waiting.

It’s stressful and odd to pin a plan on a single number, but I’d prioritize a quick check if you’re worried, even if you’re not feeling sick.
