What should i do after a failed Windows 11 graphics driver update?
#1
I just tried to update my graphics driver on Windows 11 and the whole system froze during the installation. Now after a forced reboot, my display resolution is stuck at a basic 800x600 and everything looks huge. I’m worried the driver is corrupted and I’m not sure if I should try rolling it back from safe mode or just attempt a clean install of the driver package again.

I tried something like that once. After a freeze during a driver install, I booted into safe mode and rolled back to the previous version. The screen snapped back to normal size and everything worked again. A clean reinstall can fix it too, but it can crash again if the installer acts up. If you go that route, grab the exact package from the vendor and pick a clean install.

I've been there. The 800x600 look can be the system staying in a basic fallback mode after a crash. Try booting into safe mode and see if you can reset the resolution there, or set a temporary lower resolution from the display settings.

One time I blamed the update, but it turned out the HDMI cable had loosened. Re-seating the cable fixed the display for a moment, then I still had to tackle the software side when the issue came back.

Do you have a restore point or backup you could fall back to?
