What should i do if a used car timing belt change isn't backed by receipts?

I'm looking at a used car and the seller says the timing belt was changed, but they don't have any paperwork or receipt to prove it. I'm not sure how much to trust a verbal claim like that, or if I should just assume it hasn't been done and factor the full cost of a replacement into my offer.
