What should I eat to prevent an afternoon energy slump while eating whole foods?

I’ve been trying to eat more whole foods and cut out processed stuff, but I’m really struggling with what to do about my afternoon energy crash. I usually grab something sugary or a refined carb just to get through, but then I feel worse later. I’m not sure how to structure my meals to avoid this slump without reaching for quick sugar.

I swapped the 3 pm candy for a quick protein snack. Greek yogurt with berries and a handful of almonds works for me. Sometimes a small hummus and veggie plate. It keeps me from the crash and I notice the afternoon mood and focus stay steadier.

Lunch matters more than I thought. I try a plate with chicken or beans, a grain like brown rice, and extra veg. If I skip the veggie or go heavy on simple carbs, the slump comes back.

Do you sleep well at night? I notice when I’m tired the crash hits harder even with better snacks.

Sometimes I keep meaning to snack earlier but I end up busy and grab something quick. Then I’m chasing the crash with more sugar. I’ve dropped the habit of stocking candy at my desk and it helped a little, but I still reach for something sweet when I’m stressed.
