What should I expect from an endoscopy for a suspected duodenal ulcer?
#1
I’ve been dealing with this persistent, gnawing pain in my upper abdomen, right under my ribs, that seems to come on a couple hours after I eat. My doctor mentioned it could be related to a **duodenal ulcer** and wants to do an endoscopy, but I’m really nervous about the procedure. Has anyone else gone through this specific diagnostic process for similar stomach pain?

I went through something similar last year. The pain would kick in a couple hours after I ate, and my doctor suggested endoscopy. I was terrified of the tube and the idea of being knocked out, but the prep and the staff's explanations helped. I woke up in recovery, a bit dizzy, but it wasn’t as bad as I imagined.

Between visits I worried a lot. The team mentioned a possible duodenal ulcer and said the endoscopy would show it. They also suggested a short trial of acid reducers first and changing meals a bit. The waiting and the test itself left me with a lot of mixed feelings.

Could the issue really be something else, like reflux or gallbladder trouble, or is it possible the pain is purely stomach related? I keep wondering whether we’re chasing the right problem.

I remember the waiting room and the fear, a friend came with me and that helped. The day of the procedure felt chaotic in my head but the actual endoscopy was oddly calm, and afterwards I felt a mix of relief and frustration because the pain didn’t disappear overnight.
