I’ve got tickets for two major conventions happening the same weekend in different cities, and I can only make one. One is a huge pop culture expo with big panels, and the other is a more intimate fan-run event focused on my favorite niche genre. I’m really torn on which experience would be more worthwhile for me this year.

I’ve jumped at a huge pop culture expo before. The panels are exciting, the energy is huge, and you can cross paths with people you follow. But the lines, the crowds, and the schedule chaos can swallow a day.

The smaller, fan-run event I went to last year felt intimate and real. You could actually chat with a creator, see a demo, pick up a limited zine, and walk out with something personal.

Honestly, it comes down to time and money. If you’ll only be in one city for that weekend, ask what memory you’ll still feel months from now—big spectacle or a quiet moment with a favorite niche thing.

Do you care more about chasing new hype or deep, nerdy conversations?

Maybe the real problem is just fatigue from constant conventions. Either choice could be great, but maybe you’d also give yourself a break and skip both for something low key you can savor at home.
