What should I say to a neighbor who belittles my disability?
#1
I’m trying to figure out where to draw the line with my neighbor who constantly makes comments about “people who don’t work hard enough,” knowing I’ve been on disability for a year. It feels like a personal dig disguised as a general opinion, and I’m unsure if calling it out would just make our living situation tense or if letting it slide is a form of complicity in that kind of prejudice.

That line lands hard, especially since I’m on disability and it feels like they’re calling me lazy without saying it to my face.

I did try to call it out once, not to start a fight, just to say it lands like a personal dig. They shrugged, changed the subject, and the air got thicker.

Maybe it’s their own insecurity leaking out, but that doesn’t make it okay to hear in your own home.

Is the real problem the joke itself or the fact that you’re stuck sharing space with someone who can’t hear it?
