What simple morning routine can i design for a chaotic work schedule?

I’ve been trying to build a consistent morning routine for months, but I keep falling off track after a week or two. My main goal is to create a sustainable structure that gives my day a better start, but I haven’t found a rhythm that sticks with my unpredictable work schedule.

I tried a strict 6am wakeup and a fixed sequence for two weeks, only to get slammed by rotating shifts. On the days I couldn't follow through, I felt off all day.

I started a micro-habit stack: drink water, do a 3-minute stretch, quick journaling. The alarm would ring and I’d hit the first two, then drift. After a week I dropped the journaling because it felt like one more thing to carry into the kitchen.

Is the real issue the mornings themselves, or the expectation that they must be the same every day?

One time I tried frontloading tasks at night and, honestly, I spilled coffee on the note I kept by the sink. Still, I taped a tiny anchor by the kettle and ran with that for a few mornings before life interrupted again.
