What size monitor is best for coding and photo editing, 27 vs 32 inches?

I’m trying to decide between a 27-inch and a 32-inch monitor for my home office setup, mostly for coding and some light photo editing. I’m worried the bigger one might be too overwhelming on my desk, but I also don’t want to feel cramped after a long work session.

I started with a 27 inch and it felt plenty for coding. When I swapped to a 32 on the same desk, it overwhelmed the space—felt like I was staring into a wall of pixels and my neck started yawning after an hour.

I actually measured my distances: eyes about 65–70 cm from the screen. At 70 cm the 32 was readable, but long sessions left my shoulders tense. I stuck with the 27 and added a secondary panel for photos when needed.

Maybe the problem isn’t the size at all. Could be desk depth, glare, chair height, or how I arrange windows. The bigger screen did amplify those little annoyances.

Have you tried sitting back at your usual distance with a cardboard cutout to simulate the 32 and see how it feels all day?
