What true crime podcast dives into psychology and investigation without gore?

I’ve been trying to find a good true crime podcast that doesn’t just focus on the gore but actually digs into the psychology and the investigative process. I listened to one recently that had a really compelling deep dive into a cold case, but I’m struggling to find another that has that same thoughtful pacing and respect for the victims.

I know the vibe. Up and Vanished season 1 really clicked for me, the way it followed the investigators' questions and kept the gore out of the foreground.

Bear Brook was another one that felt like a long, careful forensic read rather than a punchy confession. It weaves DNA work and victim context into the storytelling, and I appreciated the respect for the people involved.

Is the real problem the genre chasing sensational gore rather than letting the investigators guide the story?

In the Dark did a nice job of walking through the legal and investigative corners, slower pace, lots of what-ifs and documents, not just the who. I found it grounding, even when the case got heavy.

I’ve tried a few more and keep bouncing off unless they stay in that zone; some just swing too hard for drama, others feel like a chatty recap. Maybe the next one will land.
