What true crime podcast nails respectful storytelling without exploitation?

I’m trying to find a good true crime podcast that doesn’t feel exploitative of the victims. I just listened to one that handled the story with real sensitivity and journalistic integrity, but now I’m struggling to find another that strikes that same balance.

I kept coming back to In the Dark when I wanted something respectful; the reporting feels careful, with room for nuance rather than sensationalism.

Another solid pick for me is Someone Knows Something; it can be slow, but it treats the people involved with care and lists sources and corrections on the site when needed.

Criminal can be hit or miss, but as a true crime podcast it sometimes nails a single case with solid context and careful sourcing; other episodes feel like they’re chasing a hook more than the truth.

Do you think the problem is the format or the case itself?
