What tweaks to color transitions or textures help unify my abstract piece?

I’ve been working on a large abstract piece for weeks, but I’m stuck because the central section feels visually chaotic instead of dynamic. I can’t tell if the problem is my color transitions or the competing textures.

I worked on the central band for weeks, and when I nudged the color transitions toward a longer fade, the chaos loosened and it started to feel dynamic.

As far as textures go, I swapped a rough scrape for a smoother glaze and the center read calmer, but the edges fought back and sharpened again.

I did a quick test cutting a strip out and laying a pale gray over the middle; the center read quieter, but I wasn’t sure if that was the fix.

Could the problem be the underlying balance of the shapes? Maybe the center is fine and the issue is how the rest of the composition pulls the eye.
