When should i pull the trigger on a stock i've researched?

I’ve been trying to build a position in a few quality companies, but every time I set aside cash, I end up hesitating and waiting for a better entry point that never seems to come. How do you all actually pull the trigger on a stock you’ve researched when the price just seems to drift sideways or creep up slowly?

Honestly I started doing small staged buys. When I had cash set aside, I split it into two or three chunks and grabbed the first tranche as soon as price entered a loose range I’d decided on earlier. Then I waited to see a bit of movement before adding the next chunk. It didn’t magically feel perfect, but at least I didn’t sit on the sidelines forever.

I kept waiting for a cleaner pullback and watched the sideways drift drag on. I’d tell myself it’s fine if I miss a little, but then I’d look at the price a week later and wonder if I’d misread the setup.

Maybe the real issue isn’t the price at all but my measurement of quality. I tell myself the company is great, but I keep changing what counts as a good entry. Am I fooling myself that I can time this and still stay true to the thesis?

I finally tried automating a tiny drip into a couple of holdings. Set a standing buy order that goes off once cash is available and the price is within a rough band. It forced me to act, and I stopped overthinking every tick, even if the result isn’t perfect.
