Where can I find a trustworthy local mechanic for basic car maintenance?
#1
I’m trying to find a decent local mechanic who won’t overcharge or suggest unnecessary work, but I’m never sure who to trust. Has anyone had a consistently good experience with a specific shop or person in the area for basic car maintenance?

I found a good mechanic through a neighbor, a small family shop that does transparent quotes and shows worn parts. They’re not flashy, but they explain what needs doing and what can wait.

Last year I switched to a shop that gave me an itemized estimate and then called to explain every extra charge before they did it. It helped, but I still felt like I was guessing some of it.

I tried a mobile service that came to my driveway for a basic oil change, and I liked the convenience, but the price was higher than the shop around the corner. I kept going back to the corner shop for brakes and tires; I guess I’m still torn between speed and trust.

Is it possible that the real issue is not finding a shop but knowing what maintenance actually needs, like whether a cheap fix is safe long term?
