Why did my doctor switch antibiotics mid-treatment for a sinus infection?

I’m trying to understand why my doctor switched my antibiotic mid-treatment for a stubborn sinus infection. I was on the first one for five days with no real improvement, and now she’s mentioned something about possible resistance patterns in the community.

Yeah that happened to me once. After five days on the first antibiotic with almost no relief, the doc switched meds because they worry about resistance patterns in the community and want to try a different drug.

I felt a little blindsided, to be honest. It’s not always clear if the bug is stubborn or if you’re just dealing with a slow sinus thing. Sometimes a culture or a different dose would have helped, but you don’t always get that.

I keep thinking maybe the real issue is something else like allergies or inflammation. If you don’t feel better, it might not be the bacteria at all, and that’s a frustrating rabbit hole to chase.

Is there a lab result or a note from the doctor about resistance, or is this just the impression?
