Why do I hesitate to send the first message in group chats?
#1
I’ve noticed that when I’m in a group chat, I almost always wait for someone else to send the first message, even if I have something to say. It’s like I’m worried my contribution will be off-topic or ignored, so I hold back until the conversation feels “safe” to join. Does anyone else get stuck in this pattern of observing from the sidelines in digital spaces?

Yeah I do this too. I’ll sit and watch for a while, hoping someone else breaks the silence first.

I tried setting a small goal like 'say one sentence within 2 minutes of the first message' and that helped me actually participate sometimes.

Do you think the problem is really fear of looking stupid, or is the group just moving too fast for you?

I found that starting with a tiny comment works, like 'random thought' or 'my two cents'—low stakes, but it got me in.

Sometimes I skip because I worry the topic is off topic for me, and then I regret it later.

One time I left a chat because I overthought my reply and it felt pointless to jump in later.
