Why does a random video clip's audio end up colonizing my brain?

I keep seeing this one specific video clip of a guy dancing in a parking lot with a grocery cart absolutely everywhere, and now my own brain has started using the audio from it as background music for my daily tasks. Is it normal for a random piece of content to just... colonize your subconscious like that?

Yeah, that happens. I watched a goofy video and suddenly there was a track in my head every time I did chores or wore headphones. Not alarming, just the brain grabbing onto a catchy rhythm and replaying it like a stuck recording.

I actually tried to fight it by muting the clip and looping something else for a day. The earworm eased a bit, but the rhythm kept slipping back in when I was zoning out.

Could it be something else with your schedule or mood driving this, rather than the clip itself?

Maybe it’s not the content but the meter that latches on. I found myself humming it while waiting for coffee, and it sounded simple enough to fit into a lot of routines. It even felt like parts of the subconscious were nudging me.

I’m not sure there is a clean answer. I’ve had days where a tune sticks for hours, then disappears for a week. No grand insight, just messy memory stuff.
