Why does Android Auto keep disconnecting on my car screen?

I’ve been trying to get my phone’s navigation to show up on my car’s center screen using Android Auto, but it keeps disconnecting every few minutes. The cable is new and my phone’s software is updated, so I’m not sure what else to check.

I had this exact thing last month. New cable, phone fully updated, and Android Auto would drop every few minutes. It seemed to get worse when the car sat in the sun and the display would blink before reconnecting.

My take is it's more of a handshake issue between the phone and the car's head unit than a simple cable fault.

There were stretches where it held on for a bit, then suddenly the map and audio went away and the phone went back to normal UI. Felt like the link kept resetting.

Question: do you notice if it drops as soon as you turn the car on, or after you start driving for a few minutes?

I did a little wandering with it too, checked ports for looseness, and tried wiggling the cable here and there; the moment I stopped worrying about it, it felt more stable for a while.
