Why does digital scrolling seem to permanently rewire my attention span?
#1
I’ve noticed my own attention span has gotten so short I can’t even finish reading a long article anymore without checking my phone. It feels like my brain has been rewired for constant, shallow scanning. Has anyone else experienced this kind of permanent cognitive shift from digital habits?

Yeah, I hear you. I started noticing my attention span slipping too, I’d skim a long article and end up scrolling the moment I hit a wall. It felt like my brain learned to crave tiny hits. I tried leaving the phone in another room during reading for a while and kept a notebook for notes. It didn’t fix it overnight, but after a few days the urge to check in the middle of a paragraph faded a bit.

For me it wasn’t permanent either, just a reflex built by months of scrolling. The difference is small on a day to day basis; some days I catch myself zoning out after a page, other days I read a whole feature without looking up.

I tried reading a long article with a timer once, to force single-tasking. It helped for a minute, then I slid back into old habits. Not sure if that proves anything, but it was a real feeling of losing the thread.

Do you think the problem is the length of articles or something else about how we read now?
