Why does my antidepressant lose effectiveness after a while on a stable dose?
#1
I’ve been on the same antidepressant for about two years and it feels like it’s just stopped working. My doctor mentioned the possibility of a dosage increase, but I’m worried that might just be a temporary fix. Has anyone else had their medication seem to lose effectiveness after a long period of stability?

Yeah, that happened to me after a couple of years. I felt like the antidepressant had finally hit a ceiling, and then the lift faded. The doctor suggested a higher dose and it helped for a while, but then that relief wore off too. It kinda felt like tolerance or the thing just changing with time.

I started to wonder if maybe it wasn’t the med at all but other stuff creeping in—sleep, stress, or diet. I added more routine, talked with a therapist, and kept taking the same dose for a while to see if behavior changes helped. It didn’t fix everything, but it kept me from swinging as hard.

I tried a small switch to a different med after the plateau. It was scary, and there were weird side effects at first. The new one did something different for a bit, but the benefit faded again and I ended up feeling unsure whether it was the right move.

Do you think the stable period or the dose is the real issue, or is this just how mood stuff shifts over time?
