Why doesn't a 240Hz gaming monitor feel any different even with high FPS?

I finally upgraded to a 240Hz monitor, but honestly, I'm struggling to feel a huge difference from my old 144Hz panel in most games. My buddy says I need to be hitting a consistent 240 FPS to really benefit, but even in the titles where my rig can push those numbers, it just doesn't feel like the game-changing jump I expected.

I upgraded to 240Hz a while back and the first impression was underwhelming in most games. It felt smoother in fast flicks, but only when I could actually push around 240fps in the scene. The real lift came after I kept a solid 240fps in the shooters I care about and kept vsync off so I didn't drop frames mid run.

Yep, if your GPU is hovering around 150–180fps in the titles you play, you won’t feel a night-and-day difference. I found the trick was to push for a clean 240 in the few maps that matter, sometimes by dialing back a couple of settings to stop the frame rate from wobbling.

Is the problem that you’re chasing the 240fps badge rather than the actual latency and how the input feels?

I’ve also drifted into thinking about motion clarity vs the game pace. The monitor smooths panning, but it didn’t magically speed up my reflexes. Still, the little improvements in noncompetitive play were nice, and I kept tweaking colors and brightness just because.
