Why is my Galaxy S24 battery life so poor, is it normal or a defect?

I just got the Galaxy S24 and the battery life is honestly worse than my old phone. I charged it to 100% last night, used it normally today for some messages and a bit of social media, and it’s already down to 30% by mid-afternoon. I’m not even a heavy user, so I’m wondering if this is just how it is or if my unit has a problem.

I had a similar thing at first. charged to 100, used it normally, and by midday the battery was already slipping. It helped when I lowered screen brightness, turned off 120Hz adaptive refresh, and killed some background apps. It still felt off for a day or two, but it slowed down after software settled.

Could be the initial software indexing and all the background tasks after setup. After a few days with updates, mine leveled out and drained a lot less quickly.

Have you tried a quick reboot and checking for an update?

I ended up swapping mine after a day because it just wouldn’t behave. The replacement seemed better, but I’m not sure if that’s a real fix or just luck.
